Penny Authors and the their Poem 1-2

Penny Authors (PA) & their poem 1-2

We are delighted to introduce the Penny Authors and their poems published in the anthologies. PA has brought together a diverse group of people, PA is open to all nationality and all backgrounds to come together and share what we all love, writing.

Kids Can Rule

By Paul Harvey

Look at the children

They’ll show us the way

These souls want us to know that

That’s where to begin

Like taking a shower

We wash and we sing

Forgetting the hassle

Which is the cause of?

Most sins

The troubles

Diseases

We call it our age

Look at it from their point.

Most problems

They will fade

They’re happy we know this

Can’t take that from them

Just wait till tomorrow

They’ll shake you

Once again

The Halloweeen Poem

By Zainab Khan

Halloweeen, Halloweeen

Oh! scary halloweeen

October you scary month

Why do we have you?

You're scary as a horror movie and a real monster.

All of the frightening stuff scares me

I shake so much that

I want my adorable cute cat to hug me.

But, what I love about lovely halloweeen is

that you go out on trick or treat and get sweets,

and after you come home you relax calmly

I love halloweeen

Happy halloweeen!

Childhood Laughter

By Mayar Akash

When I found kindness and comfort

I started to open up

My grey shadows slowly started to disappear

as happiness and laughter took over

My mind eased as sadness ceased.

As warmth and gaiety christened my soul

my heart filled with hopes

For once my sadness and sorrow left me,

singing merrily with the sun shining in my life.

For once I had the taste of sincere warmth

one big happy family, not mine to call it; my own

but, where I temporarily found my childhood suspended:

lingering with fear of,

condemnation, ridicule, obligation, acceptance, freely sharing my thoughts.

My childhood laughter that stood in the dark,

as the light shone pass my childhood years.

Happiness joined my childhood  laughters

which stood in the dark for so long,

As I took happiness for granted

harsh words fermented,

penetrated my mind's barriers .

Naturally closed and retained the unattained childhood,

now I need to pay for having a piece of childhood happiness.

You are Beautiful!

By Isaac Harvey

Was playing an online game

and I was in a chat room with a really good friend.

We were talking and somebody randomly comes in and says

‘I’m ugly’ or something a long them lines.

Then my friend says

 ‘You’re beautiful as everyone is’

and I was like

‘I need to write about this’.

Everyone is beautiful!

Whatever you may say or what someone may tell you…

 you are beautiful.

Don’t let haters bring you down,

defeat them by spreading your beauty and ignoring them.

Wow that really sounded cheesy,

forget what I just said and I want you to go out there and be positive about yourself.

Just because you may not look as good as David Beckham

or Kim Kardashian

 doesn’t mean you are ‘ugly’

you just unique and

 should be proud!

Once

Ellis Dixon-King

Once on a lined piece of paper tucked under his mattress

he wrote a poem called “tuckers bridge”

because that was the name of his favourite

bridge where he lived

he showed it to his best friend and he said it was great

and his mum stuck it on the fridge

and showed it to his sister

that was the year he found his favourite book store

and there was a wedding

with crying and claps

and his mum and dad kissed

and round the corner he met a new friend

and the boy said he was sad

and he asked his dad why he was sad

his dad always watched his favourite show with

him at night and was always laughing.

Once on a crinkled paper tucked in a draw

he wrote a poem called “Cold”

because that is what it was

he showed it to his best friend and he

said it was okay

and his mum stuck it on the fridge

and showed it to his sister

and that was the year

his favourite book store owner said they might close down

because there wasn’t enough customers

and that was the year the married couple lost a child

and his mum and dad stopped kissing

and his friend from round the corner got too sad

so he asked his dad, why?

his dad didn’t watch his favourite show with him and

he didn’t laugh

and his father said he was too busy

so he went straight to bed

Once he wrote a poem in a torn bit from his note book

called, “aging”

because he was aging

he couldn’t show it to his best friend because he was

always with his girlfriend

or new friends

his mum was always at work so she couldn’t hung it

and his sister stayed at her boyfriends

that was the year the book store closed

down, the married couple broke up, his mum

and dad didn’t even talk

his dad was always busy or drunk

so he went straight to bed

Once he wrote a poem called “nothing”

because he felt that he didn’t show anyone

because by the time he finished the handful of pills

he wasn’t alive to do so.

Juxtapose RV

By Rebekah Vaughan

…and lastly

for starters

an ingrained

one off

whilst fencing in

an infinity

a murderous saint

sings in silence

of entropic evolution

But first

the conclusion

because I'm bored

when dumbfounded

building destruction

from isolated concoction

trashy treasures

painful pleasure

hardworking leisure

with wonky alignment

+ benevolent hate

I'm sprinting

- at a standstill

it all fully drained

because the fact is

its fiction

like freedom

in addiction?

So right

It's wrong

so short

its long

so dull

yet brilliant

when moving

so still

-boilingly frozen

-maddeningly calm

So when the courtroom

is squatted

it’s a raver's retreat

fast pace

present past

roasted raw

falling flight

all day

through the night

so when invisibility

is seen

and reality's

a dream

I'm in chained in freedom

- heart thinks

-mind felt

uniquely the same

for we many in body

-yet one in mind

as an ocean of knowledge

is contained in a drop

forever is

as always was

and maybe…

is something

to be remembered

only once forgot

divinely debouched

roughly refined

sky high in the gutter

suffering the sublime

Internal cornucopia

chemical innate

fate fuelled ambition

let love navigate.

Surrender

By Muhammed Nurul Huque

I am a Bangladeshi woman

living in complete isolation

in unfamiliar surroundings.

Hatred, fear, loneliness, boredom and dejection

are my enemies! around my neck and brain

night and day they tighten

their cruel grip.

Terror, disease, disappointment and depression

continually make their depredation.

I have been made abnormal, mad.

Neither white nor black shed tears for me,

nor does the Bangladeshi elite worry,

this society is killing me, but nobody is sorry.

Again a word about housing.

It is a long tale.

Nobody is caring.

Labour, Conservative equally fall.

All look for our labour's cheap sale.

They say Europe's squatters' capital in Tower Hamlets.

In London -forty thousand empty flats,

But to us the council never lets.

Racist blame Bengalis for living in squats,

but no housing solution comes forward.

We do not form one fourth of the squatters.

Still the allegation is: we are the creators

of all nasty dangerous problems:

We question who is responsible for stabbing

during broad daylight?

Who carries on daylight robbery?

who spreads ghoulish fright?

If you're lucky, if you apply and entreat

times without number-

maybe in one case out of a thousand,

the council breaks its slumber.

Still your flat would be in an unfamiliar place-

racist think it is a great grace.

Do you expect a flat in surroundings familiar?

'You want a ghetto: you are a conspirator'

Those troubles, who would bear them?

In spite of all these

we Bangladeshi honestly pursue our profession,

work with dedication

in Spitalfields and Tower hamlets.

We give our time, energy and sweat,

we know this land belongs to all-

Whites-Blacks-Browns-

Toiling millions,

by colour or culture whatever their brand:

Yom Kippur-Christmas-Eid-February Twenty First

Sawarsati-Durga Puja-Ramzan

Muharram-first Baishak

call to Sukanta-Nazrul-Rabindra Jayanti celebrations.

Bengali school, welfare and youth organisations-

let all these merge in our work, life and creation.

We have settled here, we are cautious,

we Danes, Romans, Normans, Jews, Irish, West Indians,

Bangalees, Chinese, Arabs and other Asians.

We are determined to build a brotherhood

climbing the stairs of time.

Surrender? We are not in that moo

Penny Authors Book Launch 4.9.2019

The Launch of Volume five of Penny Authors Anthology, The Book of Lived.

This was the first launch out of the five anthologies produced, the previous four have not presented suitable grounds to do so because of the transient state the Anthologies were in. This volume five was now ready to be launched as it had settled and firmed up its foundations.

(Also click the books and it will take you to its webpage)

So on Wednesday 4th of September 2019, Penny Authors had launched their fifth volume of their anthology, titled, V5 Book of Lived at the Redwing Gallery, off Market Jew Street, Penzance, West Cornwall.

The Launch was a success from many accounts as we had over twenty people attending and taking interests and enjoying the evening.

Jeremy & Lyla holding the V5 Book of lived with Civic, Cllr Tracey Halliday.

We were attended by Cllr Tracey Halliday, Civic Deputy, with her blue ribboned chain of office regalia. Her attendance was appreciated and the Penny Authors are grateful as this adds credibility along with recognition on many level.

"I had a lovely evening at the launch of the Penny Author's poetry anthology .

It was great to meet Mayar Akash who is the founder of this initiative which discovers aspiring writers who wouldn't be given the opportunity otherwise.

He shows real passion, enthusiasm and dedication to his writers through nurturing them in sometimes difficult times.

It was a delight to meet local resident Jeremy Lovelady who's artwork is featured on the cover of the current book and who exhibited many of his original art works which were very thought provoking.
As a Penzance Town Councillor and Vice chair of the Social Action Fund sub Committee, I'm hopeful that we can help fund some future ventures and work with Mayar Akash and the community in Penzance."
Cllr Tracey Halliday, Civic Deputy
Penzance Town Council

"The literature and materials on display at the launch were lively and helped create a welcoming atmosphere. The foundations were laid for future such events. Having people read their poems was a good idea, but some people will always be shy and the organiser read their work on their behalf, so their voices were heard , which is so important, especially for those not used to a listening ear. All in all this venture seems very positive for the community."
Ruth Lewarne

Invited friends and guest attended, and I would like to thank them by acknowledging them by name:

Roselyne - Redwing's Director
And Kes our Welsh Springer Spaniel dog.

We didn't forget Penny Authors that couldn't attend and from the past issues, we had you guys covered, you were our centre piece.

You were first in line and the last item to see. (All 25 Penny Authors name are printed out and displayed on blank/white canvas, you can see on the bottom left corner of the picture).

I was very chuffed to have received this many guest as I have not been in Penzance long enough to get acquainted with many people and this was another success. According to Jeremy Schanchev his event had 6 people respect to him for attending ours.

This Penny Authors book launch was not your normal "run off the mill" event, it incorporated individual authors artwork to support and showcase their work along with the anthology they are in. This was the first time the Redwing Gallery had such an event, a book launch with artwork, two in one.

Jeremy Lovelady with many life challenges is a local artist who draws and one of his work became the cover of the 5th anthology. This was a way to incorporate him to the writers project and thus, his painting and drawing exhibited at the launch. This also gave me an opportunity to support him with my artwork, they were in the periphery of the set up.

Jeremy showing Cllr Tracey his artwork

"Extremely well done, for your first book launch/poetry evening, very well presented, an interesting mixture of local artists, featuring books, poems, paintings alike, a good turnout by local people coming from as far as Sennen and Falmouth, in all it was a delightful and successful event, well done Mayar, looking forward to reading your future publications from the Penny Authors group"

Julie Ann Wheeler

John Festle also was invited by Roselyne, John is a journalist for an on-line social media platform. He took our recording and was impressed to the point he then later purchased a copy before leaving. We look forward to his coverage and reporting this on the social media platform.

"This was my first attendance to such an event and I didn't really know what to expect. I believe it went well. People who attended were very receptive"
Leo Tadebois

John Thomas a local writer and singer offered to record our poetry reading on his equipment that he brought along on his own accord. I was very chuffed and accepted his offer, many thank yous to John and we look forward to the end product.

"I thought the launch was successful. I also feel it bodes well for the local arts scene in Penzance and environs especially after hearing such optimism from Penzance Town Council. I thank you Mayar for your hospitality at the function and look forward to reading the book.  Well done!"
John Thomas

Ruth & I read from the book from the book, Ruth got the claps and I left the audience stunned (I think), after I finish there is silence, [lol] this is the third time this happened, after all three reading, silence followed; so not sure if my work is good or not… I leave that to the people to let me know in their own time.

Alison Bray a local artist enquired if Penny Authors was going to become a poetry group holding regular sessions and she expressed a need do some work in the area of poets reading their work in public, for coach, building confidence in elocution.

Tracey has made known to the group that there are fundings possible in the social aspects of the project, in the above coach and also the mental welling aspect of the initiative.

Penny Authors Successes

The success stories to date, four of the Penny authors have gone to produce and publish their first solo books.

Zainab Khan family supported her in publishing her own poetry book titled after her poem. "The Halloween Poem".

Liam Newton through the "Writers Champion went on to publish poetry book titled after his rap song, the "Delirious".

Rashma Mehta also through the "Writers Champion" published her first solo book. She was so happy of her aspiration attainment, she went on to Publish her second book through MAPublisher at a favourable costs to suit her budget. Rashma is currently working on her third book.

Bhupendra M. Ghandi has also had his work published in the Penny Authors anthology and then went on to publish his "Cry For Help" poetry book through MAPublisher. He is not new to publishing and has published with other publishers. The uniqueness offered to him is that we will help him to promote his other books by including the images on the back cover. He was charged for this service, which was only too glad.  He needed to bring all his books under one place to promote and the cost was affordable and competitive.

Ruth Lewarne also entered the gateway through Penny Authors and benefited from our service. She went on to publish her solo book "Lit from within". She has previously published an eBook. She now has three books

Mayar Akash also has produced and published three book to date.

(Also click the books and it will take you to its webpage)

The difficult part of all published book is the promotion of it, MAP books have a roll on non contractual promotion at MAPublisher's discretion without costs to the author, this is the unique and bespoke aspect.

Samples of promotional materials

The promotion also facilitates traffic to the pages, sites, this is the indirect benefit to the writer becoming part of the Penny Authors Anthologies; free of costs, discretionary. This is to support the co-operative aspect of Penny Authors, everyone support each other by promoting the title in their own platforms.

All aspiring writer coming in with Penny Authors are walked through the processes to enter the gateway of getting their work published.
